Marc Venot: Design as a Lifelong Companion

A graduate of Ensci/Les Ateliers, Marc Venot is an industrial designer whose trademark creations blend simplicity with elegance. His recent works for L’Atelier du Vin, Le Brasseur and Le Vigneron, serve as perfect illustrations of his design philosophy.

An Inspiring Journey and a Unique Vision

After graduating in 2004, Marc Venot began his career in an agency before setting up his own studio in 2011. Based in the Belleville neighborhood of Paris, he pours his expertise into a wide range of projects, with a vision of inspiration as omnipresent. “Anything can be a source of inspiration,” says Venot. “Our experiences, our daily lives, travel and the history of design are all essential elements that feed my creative process.”

This ability to draw on a wide range of experiences is evident in his recent creations. Le Brasseur and Le Vigneron are far more than just simple tools. They are the result of a great deal of thought and experimentation to achieve a design that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Self-Sufficient Objects

Marc Venot considers his creations “objects that stand on their own.” He considers design to be about presence and impact. “We were looking to make timeless objects with a distinctive, appealing and recognizable form. The aim was to create objects that people will always keep on display—decorative pieces and not items you hide in a drawer.”

This approach is particularly evident in Le Brasseur, the bottle opener designed to a true “tabletop companion,” and Le Vigneron, a T-shaped corkscrew combining tradition, innovation and expertise. “Le Brasseur and Le Vigneron are two friendly little figurines that are great to keep close at hand during all the good times in life.”

The Importance of Materials and Functionality

When talking about his creative process, Marc Venot emphasizes the importance of functionality and materials. “The major challenge was to create a dialog with the foundry technicians to achieve a shape that was close to our initial design. We also had to ensure that the products felt good in the hand without being too heavy.”

Durability is at the heart of his vision. For Venot, “creating objects that are highly resistant and indestructible is essential.” That’s why Le Brasseur and Le Vigneron are made from stainless steel and coated with a PVD finish, guaranteeing their longevity.

A Collaboration Based on Mutual Respect

The collaboration with L’Atelier du Vin has been an enriching human adventure for Marc Venot. “Every project is ultimately a human adventure,” he explains. “Working with Georges was simple, clear and efficient. He respects the work of creators and has great sensitivity and expertise.”

The result of this relationship – built on trust and mutual respect – is objects that not only fulfill their function with excellence, but also embody a true vision of design. “I like creating objects that are strong enough to create a special and lasting bond with their users.”

A Vision for More Sustainable Design

Marc Venot has expressed a desire for a more sustainable future in design. “I’d like us to move towards more thoughtful and sustainable purchasing. ‘Less but better,’ as Dieter Rams says.” The current trend of “everything all the time, right away, disposable and cheap” is something Venot has criticized, calling for a collective awakening and movement toward quality products that are made to last.

In short, Le Brasseur and Le Vigneron  are much more than elegant accessories. They are testimonials to a thoughtful, sustainable design philosophy. Marc Venot has succeeded in creating objects that are both beautiful and functional, while emphasizing a vision of design that values sustainability and positive impact on the user.
